In nine reviewed sub-Saharan African countries, livestock and wildlife were found to harbor naturally occurring infections. The wide range of mammalian species served as intermediate hosts for Besnoitia besnoiti, the most common species found in all nine countries assessed. The presence of *B. besnoiti* fluctuated from a low of 20% to a high of 803%, and the presence of *B. caprae* had a highly variable prevalence, ranging from 545% to 4653%.
